NEW YORK, NY— June 13, 2016 —Andrew McOrmond, Managing Director of ETF Trading Solutions at WallachBeth Capital, a New York City-based institutional execution firm, competed in the 2016 Wall Street Decathlon as a member of the ‘CNBC Halftime Report Traders’ team. Bringing together participants from throughout the financial industry, The Decathlon is a Wall Street fundraising initiative benefiting children’s cancer research, more specifically funding two clinical trials at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. To date, more than $6.7 million has been raised in support of the cause.
An enthusiastic athlete by nature, McOrmond couldn’t pass up the opportunity to participate again this year. “I’ve always loved competing in Spartan Races and all kinds of athletic events,” McOrmond said, “so when I was asked to participate in the Decathlon last year, and saw that the charity was benefitting children’s cancer, it was all I needed to know.”
As a part of the CNBC Team, The Decathlon recognized Andrew McOrmond of WallachBeth Capital for raising over $10,000 in support of the cause.
While the event itself can get competitive, the spirit of The Decathlon remains cooperative. “My team at WallachBeth have been tremendous supporters of my involvement in the Wall Street Decathlon,” McOrmond added. “They are equally passionate about the cause and have gone above and beyond to promote the event and collect donations on my behalf. I’m excited to represent WallachBeth in the Decathlon for another year and hopefully many more to come.”
Team participants were free to select which of the ten events they would participate in, but McOrmond elected to compete as an individual in all 10 events: the 400m run, the football throw, pull-ups, 40yd dash, dips, 500m stationery row, vertical jump, 20yd shuttle, bench press, and the 800m run. This substantial commitment necessitated a great deal of training. “It made me feel great to train and put in the hard work knowing that my friends and family have made donations to support my efforts,” McOrmond said. “The hard work put into training is nothing compared to the battles these kids have faced with cancer.”
The event was held over the weekend on June 11th and 12th at St. John’s University’s DaSilva Memorial Field.
